Nigeria Police Rescue 75 Kidnap Victims in Kaduna State

Police in Nigeria have rescued 75 Fulani travellers—men, women and children—who were abducted from commercial buses in Kaduna State and held captive in a cave. Gunmen seized the passengers on August 19 before taking them into a mountainous forest near Birnin Gwari.

Acting on intelligence supplied by the local transport workers’ union, officers raided the area and drove the kidnappers into flight, securing the release of all 75 victims without injury. Authorities called on residents to stay alert and pass useful information to the police.

Officials also warned the public against taking the law into its own hands, saying vigilante operations or reprisals could fuel further violence and put innocent lives at risk.
