Mogadishu (AX) — Acting House of the People Speaker Sadia Yasin Haji Samatar on Monday appealed for calm after fresh clan fighting erupted in parts of Hiiraan region, including clashes between local communities in Jalalaqsi district.

She described the violence between people living side by side in the same area as deeply alarming and said it demanded immediate attention.

“The tragic fighting that occurred between brotherly communities living in the same area in Jalalaqsi district of Hiiraan region is a serious matter that cannot be ignored or met with silence,” she said. “It undermines peace, social cohesion and the future of the local population.”

Sadia called on traditional elders, religious scholars, community leaders, the Hirshabelle administration and the wider public to move quickly to stop the violence and work toward a durable peaceful settlement.

“As the leadership of the House of the People, we reaffirm our support for every effort aimed at stopping the bloodshed and strengthening peace and brotherhood among the local communities,” Saadiya said.

She said safeguarding peace and preventing any steps that could deepen the conflict is a shared duty.

Sadia urged residents to put the public interest and peaceful coexistence ahead of all other concerns.

The appeal comes as authorities and community leaders continue efforts to ease tensions in Jalalaqsi district and head off further bloodshed following recent inter-clan clashes.
