President Kaïs Saïed is still alone at the helm of the country

In Tunisia, more than three weeks after taking temporary power, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, has not yet proposed a roadmap or a new head of government, but he continues the messages and sharpens the tone against corruption and political parties.

It is a status quo that remains tense. More than three weeks after freezing Parliament’s activities and dismissing the Prime Minister, it is difficult to foresee the actions of Kaïs Saïed, whose communication is blocked. His message passes mainly through his statements during his excursions.

The tone has hardened since he took power on July 25. Several deputies and businessmen were recently banned from traveling as part of a comprehensive campaign against corruption, the president insists on each of his excursions on his desire to eradicate corruption. When he congratulates medical and military personnel on the success of open vaccination campaigns, he sends a shovel to politicians. “We must also vaccinate the country against political bacteria,” he said.

Kaïs Saïed is still popular on Monday, August 16, during a visit to Tunis-Carthage International Airport, he announces that it will not go back, that he will not discuss with those talking about a coup to qualify its takeover. An indirect way of responding to the Islamist conservative party Ennahda, which does not agree with the exceptional measures taken by the president.

But what is Kaïs Saïed’s strategy? If he soon announced that he would present a head of government with a ministry, he still has not given a date. Surveys confirm that despite this political ambiguity, the president has not lost popularity.
