ISIS strikes in Somalia’s Northeastern State as forces kill Pakistani jihadists

BOSSASO, Northeastern State – The ISIS-affiliated militants suffered a significant blow after the death of a foreign top jihadist, who has served the group for a couple of years, in their quest to control the war-torn Horn of Africa.

With declining capacity, the ISIS member company has limited itself to Northeastern State in Somalia, mainly in the Golibergen. They sometimes strike at security forces and civilians in the northeastern state.

But in a statement, Northeastern State Security Forces [PSF], which has carried out operations across the state, announced the killing of Khalid Jama Osama, a Pakistani jihadist during an operation in the Almadow Mountains in the Bari region over the weekend.

During the operation, the security forces stated, the group’s main hiding place was destroyed by the team that stored seizures of several weapons. Dozens of other fighters are said to have escaped with serious injuries, according to authorities in Northeastern State.

Khalid Jama Osama was one of dozens of foreign fighters working closely with the ISIS group who boast of having recruited several fighters from the Middle East. The group recently met at a training session at an unknown location in the state of Northeastern State in Somalia.

Although it is not clear how long he has fought with the group, Khalid Jama Osama was one of the warriors that Northeastern State Security Forces pursued after security brochures. He is said to have been head of the group in Somalia.

Northeastern State, one of the most stable states in Somalia, has recently struggled with terrorist groups. Al-Shabaab is also said to be entering the region, but coordinated operations by security forces have significantly minimized their entry into the region.

ISIS moved to Northeastern State after sibling rivalry with Al-Shabaab, which crushed them from southern Somalia. The groups often fight when they meet on the battlefield, which helps with tactical neutralization of extremism in the Horn of Africa.

Al-Shabaab has also lost several territories in central and southern Somalia following security operations by Somalia’s national army [SNA] and African Union mission forces in Somalia.

Osama now joins the list of deadly terrorists killed in Somalia in recent months, either inland hunting or US airstrikes. Another Pakistani jihadist fighting for ISIS was killed by US forces earlier this year.
