An alleged member of al-Shabab is believed to be responsible for detonating an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in the tragic deaths of several of his family members.

In Mogadishu, a suspected al-Shabab militant died with his two children when an IED he was making exploded. His wife was also injured in the blast. The police spokesperson said the incident happened in Elasha Biyaha, 15km south of Mogadishu. No arrests were made after security forces arrived at the scene. “A militant crafting landmines in his home caused an explosion that killed his children and injured his wife,” stated Abdifatah, the spokesperson. Similar incidents have occurred before, with explosions happening in houses where mines and explosives were being prepared, both in Mogadishu and other regions.
