PSG confirm the extension of Mauricio Pochettino’s contract

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that they have triggered a one-year extension clause in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s contract.

The Argentine was heavily pursued by both Tottenham and Real Madrid this summer after a challenging first six months in Paris, but PSG were not interested in losing their boss and subtly deepened their contract to give them some respite.

Here we are, a few months later, and confirmation that a one – year extension has now arrived, with PSG going to their official website to confirm that each member of Pochettino’s staff has received their extension.

“I am really very happy, for myself and also for my staff,” said Pochettino. “It is very important for us to feel trusted by the club and we will give our maximum so that the supporters are proud of Paris Saint-Germain. That is why we will try to reach our goals together, as one.

“20 years ago I was captain of this club and today I am a coach … it is a dream come true.”

Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: “We are very pleased that Mauricio has reaffirmed his commitment to the Paris Saint-Germain family. Having captained the team 20 years ago, he understands the club’s values, ambition and vision for the future. With Mauricio leadership, we are happy and confident about the future. ”

After seeing his contract extended, Pochettino soon disappeared from the radar of both Real and Spurs, who eventually found themselves with new bosses from elsewhere. The former intercepted Carlo Ancelotti, and it was Nuno Espirito Santo for the latter.

For Pochettino, the lack of speculation means he can focus hard on the task at Paris, which is restoring the Ligue 1 title after losing to Lille last season.

The boss managed to succeed in both the Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de France, but unfortunately for Pochettino, those responsible have much higher expectations of their expensively composed group.

In an attempt to regain Ligue 1 glory, PSG have entered the transfer market strongly. Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma have all agreed on free transfers, and they have also shared over £ 50 million to land Achraf Hakimi from Inter.
