Somalia and Egypt discuss strategic partnership at Korea-Africa meeting

Seoul, South Korea (AX) — Somalia and Egypt used a high-level gathering in Seoul on Monday to press ahead with closer ties, as Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali met his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, for talks on expanding strategic cooperation.

The discussion took place on the margins of the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting, giving the two ministers a chance to review the state of relations and look at areas where the partnership could be strengthened.
The ministers explored ways to broaden collaboration in fields of shared interest, with both sides focused on deepening the Somalia-Egypt strategic partnership.
Abdisalam also thanked Egypt for its ongoing backing of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions.
The meeting comes at a time when Somalia is working to secure stronger diplomatic alliances amid regional tensions tied to sovereignty, security and the country’s political transition.
Egypt has consistently voiced support for Somalia’s territorial integrity and has kept close contact with Mogadishu through Arab League, African Union and bilateral diplomatic channels.
