Mogadishu (AX) — The Banadir Regional Education Directorate on Sunday released the schedule for Grade 8 certificate examinations for the 2025-26 academic year, setting the stage for thousands of students across the region to take part.

Officials said all preparations have been finalized and that tighter safeguards are in place to uphold transparency, fairness and quality during the testing process.
The directorate also appealed to school leaders, teachers and parents to stand behind students as they ready themselves for the exams. It urged families and schools alike to foster a calm, supportive atmosphere that can help pupils perform well academically.
The Grade 8 examinations form part of Somalia’s broader drive to standardize education assessments and strengthen accountability across schools.
The announcement comes as the country prepares for national secondary school examinations, which are set for June 20 to 25.
Nearly 40,000 students from federal member states and the Banadir region are expected to sit for this year’s secondary school exams. By comparison, 38,471 students took the national secondary examinations last year, according to the Ministry of Education.
Education officials say the move toward unified examinations remains a key step in reinforcing Somalia’s education system and ensuring students are evaluated against the same national standards.
