JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Wednesday sharply condemned reports that the self-declared “North Western State of Somalia” region intends to open an embassy in al-Quds, a move that would further signal growing ties between the Israeli regime and the breakaway territory in the Horn of Africa.
In a press statement, the OIC General Secretariat said it was deeply alarmed by media reports about plans by “North Western State of Somalia” to establish a so-called “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem. It described the reported step as “flagrant defiance of the will of the entire international community” and a “grave violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and relevant UN resolutions.”

The secretariat said the reported initiative fits within what it called “Israel’s desperate and illegitimate attempts to extract false recognitions from illegitimate and internationally unrecognized entities — including the so-called “North Western State of Somalia” region — to consolidate its illegitimate and purported sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem, in flagrant violation of the principles of international law.”
It stressed that “Israel, the occupying power, has no sovereignty over East Jerusalem al-Quds, the capital of the State of Palestine, and that any measures aimed at altering its political, demographic, or geographical status are null and void under international law.”
The organization also reaffirmed its “full and absolute solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia, and its unwavering support for Somalia’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity and regional security,” and urged governments worldwide to “condemn and oppose this illegal move and to reject any attempt to confer international legal status on an unrecognized separatist entity, and to compel the Israeli occupation to comply with resolutions of international legitimacy.”
