A political aspirant from Garissa County is in police custody after being accused of stoking violence in the wake of the deadly Tseikuru attack in Kitui County that claimed seven lives.

She was arrested on Sunday after a video spread online showing her allegedly calling for revenge over the killing of a taxi driver in Garissa earlier last week. In the five-minute recording, she is heard making remarks about religion and urging action if authorities failed to deliver justice.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the comments may have heightened tensions and played a role in violence reported in both Garissa and Kitui.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody and said she would be presented in court.
“She has been arrested a short while ago and will be arraigned tomorrow for incitement to violence,” he said.
Investigators are now examining whether her statements were connected to the attack in Tseikuru, where armed assailants killed seven people in a brutal daylight raid.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has since visited the area as investigations continue.
The National Police Service (NPS) denounced the killings, describing them as part of a troubling pattern of retaliatory violence between neighbouring communities.
Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri said the bloodshed traces back to March 29, when a herdsman was killed near Mwingi Game Reserve. The following day, a reprisal attack left four more people dead.
The latest assault came on April 25 at Kwa Kamari trading centre, where seven people—six men and one woman—were shot dead by about 40 heavily armed attackers. Several properties, among them shops and a petrol station, were also set ablaze, sending residents fleeing for safety.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has dispatched a senior security team to help restore order, while more officers have been sent to the area.
Authorities have urged residents to stay calm and appealed to community leaders to help ease tensions and promote peace as investigations proceed.
Meanwhile, Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the killings, describing the incident as a major security lapse.
He questioned how heavily armed attackers were able to move freely and execute such a coordinated assault, and raised concern over possible intelligence failures.
Musyoka also took aim at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing security agencies of overlooking earlier warnings about rising tensions in the region.
He called for the urgent deployment of additional security officers and a full investigation to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.
