Wharton Declares: Age Is Just a Number for England’s Euro 2024 Aspirants

England’s Euro 2024 squad will feature two sprightly midfielders, Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton, during the tournament in Germany.

Adam Wharton feels his youth won’t hinder his prospects with the England team as he encounters an “unreal sensation” approaching the significant championship.

Until a recent switch to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Wharton showcased his skills at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

His meteoric ascent continues as he joins Gareth Southgate’s chosen lineup for the forthcoming European Championship this month.

This accolade comes after an extraordinary latter half of the season for Wharton, drawing glances from some of Europe’s top clubs due to his stellar performances under Oliver Glasner at Palace.

At just 20 years old for the UEFA tourney in Germany, Wharton is set on making an impact, confident in seizing opportunities despite his lesser seasoned status among peers.

“The squad includes long-timers and several stellar young talents… the blend is beneficial,” expressed Wharton on a Wednesday.

“If you’ve got the skills, age is just a number.

“This experience is beyond belief. I hadn’t anticipated it. It’s like a dream turned into reality. Every youngster playing football aspires to reach the Premier League and represent their nation.

“I kicked off with the team I’ve always supported, thoroughly enjoyed it, and then the journey just rocketed from there. Advancing to the Premier League and now this—it’s all happened quickly, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“The past six months have been a thrill, and I aim to continue this trajectory of playing and improving.”

Competing for a midfield spot, Wharton joins the likes of Declan Rice, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Gallagher, and Kobbie Mainoo, while Jude Bellingham might also feature if deployed in a deeper role.

However, the young challenger isn’t daunted as he embraces his international ambitions.

“I am simply thrilled,” he concluded. “To do what I adore on such a grand stage is unbeatable.”
