Team GB was lost from the Olympics in the quarter-final stage after a pulsating 4-3 loss against prematurely against old enemies Australia on Friday.
Hege Riise’s side hit the woodwork twice early when Keira Walsh hit the post before Rachel Daly’s cross floated over Australian goalkeeper Teagan Micah and dimmed off the crossbar, but they fell behind when Alanna Kennedy drove a thumping head out of Ellie Roebuck’s reach.

Team GB continued to press for an equalizer and they were rewarded when Ellen White produced an even better nod than Kennedy’s opener to dodge the ball over Micah and into the back of the net, but they came almost immediately after when Steph Houghton fired the ball against her own crossbar. .
White was once again the hero with just 25 minutes to play as she fought for the ball in the area before reacting to her own knockdown and smashing the ball home to make it 2-1 to Team GB.

Australia threw everything they had against their opponents as they sought an equalizer and Sam Kerr’s 89-minute strike equalized to send the game into extra time.
Caroline Weir was given a chance to change things around. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
Team GB was not yet finished as White finished a brilliant hat-trick with five minutes to play, but her efforts were to be in vain as Australia advanced to the semi-finals with a 4-3 victory.

Steph Houghton (CB) – 7/10 – Very lucky to escape without penalty when she unnecessarily hit the ball and hit her own crossbar. Put the nearest miss behind her and performed well on the big picture.
Leah Williamson (CB) – 6/10 – Some bad defenses from the Arsenal midfielder in the build-up to Australia’s opening. Saw to atone for her mistakes by stepping out of defense and opening the game with a decent pass.
Demi Stokes (LB) – 7/10 – Some good defense in the big areas when she used her pace to full effect. Did his best to deny Australia the chance to swing a cross in the box.

Kim Little (CM) – 7/10 – Swung a brilliant cross into the box shortly after her side let in the opener but White could not get to the end of it. Went a little under the radar with a little tireless work in the middle of the field.
Caroline Weir (CM) – 5/10 – The Manchester City midfielder saw a class above with the ball at her feet but she was crowded too often. Bad penalty in extra time that was saved comfortably.
Keira Walsh (CM) – 7/10 – Unfortunate not to open the scoring with an early strike that hit the post. Showed some wonderful details in midfield and was a threatening match.

Rachel Daly (RW) – 6/10 – Was almost very lucky when her cross hit the top of the crossbar. Replace in the second half when her influence on the game began to wane.
Ellen White (ST) – 9/10 – Began to get frustrated when the game continued and made himself guilty of dropping too deep sometimes. Driven much further forward in the second half and was rewarded with a brilliant hat trick. Did not deserve to be on the losing side.
Lauren Hemp (LW) – 8/10 – Livewire in the Team GB front line. Always looked dangerous when she got the ball on her cultured left foot and her brilliant assist saw Team GB pull evenly.
