Sergio Busquets denies a possible move to MLS

Barcelona veteran Sergio Busquets has asked questions about the transfer to Major League Soccer, after reports emerged that linked the midfielder with a transfer to the United States earlier in July.

According to Fabrizio Romano, American teams reached out to the star about a possible move to the league in hopes of adding him to the list of European players in the United States.

Since the emergence of these rumors, Busquets has lost the idea and claimed that no MLS club has reached out directly to him. The player, who is currently with Spain at the Euro 2020 race, spoke to El Partidazo de Cope on the subject. “I have a valid contract and I am very comfortable at the club,” Busquets said simply.

Despite insisting that no offers have been received, reports continue to swirl that the player will be “tempted” to play in Major League Soccer 2022 after staying at Camp Nou for another year.

He is currently still under contract with the La Liga giants until 2023. He first joined Barcelona’s senior team in 2008, after climbing through the site’s famous youth system. Since its debut, Busquets has made 629 professional appearances over a 13-year period and inspired Barcelona to several championship runs.

Internationally, the midfielder has played for Spain on 126 occasions, including several appearances during their winning World Cup in 2010 and currently three appearances during this year’s Euro.

Sergio Busquets has been contacted by MLS clubs in recent months. He has been tempted, but he will stay 100% in Barcelona this summer – without a doubt. ?? #FCB

New approaches will arrive for Busquets from MLS clubs in the summer of 2022 or 2023, which was revealed yesterday on Twitch. ?? https://t.co/nOikQdmWeW

Busquets is currently the third Barça player linked to a potential move to Major League Soccer, following reports of Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi. Griezmann is currently the only player who has spoken openly about joining the American league after his contract in Spain. Despite a somewhat vague timeline, Griezmann seems to have his heart set on the future step.

“I want to end my career in the United States. I do not know yet if it will be in Miami or Los Angeles. Two big cities. I like the mentality and show culture in the United States, he said.
