Newcastle to continue the Willock hunt

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has admitted that he intends to continue blowing up Arsenal’s phone in an attempt to bring Joe Willock back to St James’ Park.

Willock was outstanding in his six-month stint with Newcastle last season, scoring eight goals in 14 appearances for the Magpies and finding the net in each of his last seven appearances.

It is a form that, understandably, has Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta who wants to take a closer look at Willock this summer, but 90 min understands that the 20-year-old has made it clear that he wants to go back to St James’ Park again as he is worried he would not get the minutes he wants at Arsenal.

Arsenal are willing to let Willock lend again, but only if Newcastle agree to a £ 15million purchase obligation, and this detail has seen talks over a departure stop somewhat.

Talks will continue behind the scenes, but Bruce has admitted that he plans to do what he can to try to speed things up and bring Willock back to the club for the coming year.

“As I have said, it really is Arsenal’s decision, and until Arsenal make a decision – just like all the big clubs, they have an eye on the pre-season – we will continue to monitor and dig away,” he said (via the Daily Mail).

“We would like to do something but it is still Arsenal’s call.”

Bruce’s words came after an older Newcastle side fell 1-0 to York City in their first left-handed game of the summer, where the Magpies’ need for some midfield tension was exposed for all to see.

Newcastle are hoping to find a deal with Arsenal, but that obligation to buy is a problem for owner Mike Ashley, who is reluctant to commit to more spending while there is still hope that the Premier League could finally allow the Saudi takeover of the club. To go through.

Crystal Palace have also expressed an interest in Willock, but the midfielder is expected to delay a final decision in the hope of eventually sealing a return to Newcastle.
