Devastating Hunger and Displacement Crisis Grips Sudan

After fourteen months of fierce conflict, Sudan is now grappling with the most severe hunger and displacement crisis on a global scale. The country director of the International Rescue Committee, Eatizaz Yousif, stated that a significant number of individuals have been forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing battles between the army and RSF paramilitaries. The limited number of safe havens available for these displaced individuals is rapidly decreasing. Recent data suggests that over 55,000 individuals have fled the Sinja region in southeastern Sudan in just the past few weeks. Since the eruption of war in April last year, tens of thousands of lives have been lost across the nation. Eatizaz Yousif provided insight on these issues during our interview in Perspective.
