Neuer Surpasses Lahm in Record Books with Starting Nod for Germany in Euro 2024 Opener

Manuel Neuer recently eclipsed Philipp Lahm to become Germany’s top player for appearances in significant tournaments.

In Munich, during the Euro 2024 kickoff against Scotland, Neuer made his entrance.

This event marked his 35th debut in either the Euros or World Cup, surpassing his previous teammate, and 2014 world champion, Lahm (34).

In the annals of European competitors at World Cup/Euros combined, only Cristiano Ronaldo (43) and Paolo Maldini (36) have participated more frequently.

Neuer now shares the record for a goalkeeper, on par with Hugo Lloris, the ex-captain of France.

Julian Nagelsmann also named distinguished veterans like Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan, Joshua Kimmich, and Antonio Rudiger in Germany’s opening lineup.

This lineup, averaging 29 years and 22 days old, was Germany’s most seasoned for a World Cup or Euros match since June 2000.
