Alexandre Lacazette’s Arsenal future will be decided in the summer

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal will try to address Alexandre Lacazette’s future at the end of the season.

The Frenchman has struggled to keep a regular place in Gunners start XI since Arteta’s arrival in December 2019, which led to speculation that the club could make money on him.

At the request for an update on the frontman’s situation, Arteta refused to pay attention to the subject and simply confirmed that it is an issue that the club will address at the end of the season.

“We will deal with the situation with Laca in the summer, talk to him and just suggest the future we want and that is it,” he told The Guardian.

“Everything is related to where we are, how much we win and where we play next season. There are no exceptions and we must all be clear about that, with the context we have right now in our industry. ”

Lacazette has been in fine form lately – notch three goals and two assists in his last six league exclusions including the winner of the North London derby – and despite Arteta’s refusal to confirm the Frenchman would be at the Emirates Stadium next season, he was full of praise for his recent appearances.

“I think he has been in really good shape for several months now,” he added. “He keeps that level, scores goals and provides the team with something else as well. His work rate has been phenomenal and that’s what we want.

“We need these types of players who reach the next level, because during the season we have lacked goals, that creativity in the last third.”

One factor that may play a role in Arsenal’s decision on Lacazette’s future is their main interest in Sergio Aguero.

The Manchester City striker recently confirmed that he would not renew his deal at the Etihad Stadium – making him a free agent this summer – but Arteta remained chaste when asked about reports linking Arsenal to a move for the Argentine freight forwarder.

“We will see what happens to him [Aguero] in the future, he said.
