Mogadishu (AX) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stood alongside senior officials, traditional elders and Somali religious scholars in Mogadishu on Tuesday as mourners gathered to perform the funeral prayer for renowned traditional leader Imam Mohamed Yusuf Ali.
Imam Mohamed passed away in India, where he had travelled to receive medical care.
President Mohamud paid tribute to the late elder as a respected national figure whose work left a lasting mark on peacebuilding, reconciliation and the long effort to restore Somali state institutions.
The president said Imam Mohamed had helped bring Somali communities together and advance stability, noting that his contributions would remain part of the country’s collective memory.
Mohamud extended condolences to the elder’s family and relatives, as well as to Somali cultural leaders and the broader Somali nation.
