Presidency Rejects Claims That South Africa Is Isolated From Africa

The Presidency has pushed back against what it describes as a misinformation campaign seeking to cast South Africa as isolated from the continent following protests against illegal migration.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the government has repeatedly condemned vigilantism targeting foreign nationals, while stressing that immigration laws must still be enforced in line with the Constitution. He also voiced concern about what he called the deliberate circulation of false information by a diplomatic representative.

Citing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent engagements with African leaders, France, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, Magwenya said South Africa continues to play an active and respected role in regional and international affairs. He rejected suggestions that the country had become a “pariah state.”
