WHO Warns DR Congo Ebola Outbreak Continues to Spread
WHO warns Ebola outbreak in DR Congo continues to spread

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Uganda may be two to four times larger than official data suggests, as many infections are never reported.

Nearly 2,000 people have been infected and more than 700 have died, according to official figures. Health officials say the virus is now spreading faster than response teams can contain it.

The WHO has also sounded the alarm over a critical funding gap, after receiving less than half of the $115 million required to tackle the outbreak. It called for stronger international support, warning that many patients are still dying in their communities before they can reach healthcare facilities.
