Jowhar (AX) – Somali PM Hamsa Abdi Barre visited Bal’ad in Middle Shebelle to oversee progress on road reconstruction project linking Mogadishu and Jowhar, funded by Qatari government to boost transportation and economic growth in the region.
Barre praised Qatari government, engineers, and workers for their efforts in constructing the road, stressing the importance of this infrastructure for Somalia’s future.
He stated, “The road will serve as a crucial link for businesses, easing movement of goods between Mogadishu and Jowhar, promoting trade and economic activity. Improved connectivity will reduce travel time, benefiting commuters and transport.”
PM Barre highlighted Somalia’s success in combating terrorism, creating a business-friendly environment for investment. To attract more investment, the country must continue developing key infrastructure such as roads and electricity.
The road project comprises three phases: Mogadishu-Afgoye Road and Mogadishu-Bal’ad Road have been completed, while Bal’ad-Jowhar Road is ongoing and expected to finish in the upcoming months.
