Madagascar stir, the Ethiopian miracle

Madagascar, who would win against Niger to hope for a second qualifier for CAN, failed on March 30, 2021 against Mena (0-0). A major failure when Ethiopia, beaten by Ivory Coast (1-3), inherited the second qualifying ticket for CAN 2021.

An incredible scenario and results during the last day of Group K. There was only one place to take after the qualification of Ivory Coast and the elimination of Niger on the fifth day. The information was clear: Malagasy, quarterfinals 2019, had to beat the Nigerians and hope for a defeat at the same time from Ethiopia to the elephants to go to Cameroon. This scenario took the right path for Barea when the Ivorians after 20 minutes already led 2-0 in front of Ibex of Abyssinia. Willy Boli opened the scoring in the third minute by nodding a corner from Serge Aurier. Franck Kessie added to the bill on a penalty that Jean Evrard Kouassi received (19). It remained only for Nicolas Dupui’s men to score against the Nigerians to complete the mission. They never get there.

Faced with a team they still had corrected, 6-2, in the first stage in Niamey, Faneva Ima Andriatsima and her family could not find the environment. It must be said that Niger without pressure was without complex in this meeting and even caused concern for the Malagasy who never knew which way to take this match. They thus allowed Ethiopia to fly to Cameroon, even though they were beaten in Ivory Coast (1-3). Please note that this meeting was adjourned for long minutes following the inconvenience of the Referee.

It is really with great regret and huge disappointment that Barea will turn this qualifying side as they started with the ambition to go to CAN for the second time in a row. For Ethiopia, this qualification gets a miracle after adjusting three defeats in as many excursions on the outside. Eight years after their most recent participation in CAN 2013, Walya will therefore find the most beautiful scene in African football.
