Jubbaland Boat Incident Leaves WFP and FAO Humanitarian Workers Injured

Kismayo (AX) – A mishap on Thursday, June 6, 2024, left three aid workers hurt when two boats, transporting humanitarian staffers, their teams, and security, collided in Raaskaambooni.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy in Jubbaland State disclosed the injured were from the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Details about the accident’s cause and the victims’ nationalities were withheld.

“The personnel were on a humanitarian expedition in Badhaadhe district and nearby islands, returning from Raaskaambooni when the calamity struck. Initial assessments show two individuals with severe injuries and one with minor injuries. Some of the injured have been airlifted to Mogadishu for medical attention,” stated the ministry.

Wishes for a speedy recovery were extended to the injured by the ministry.

Both the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) remained tight-lipped about the incident that saw three of their team members injured.
