Cubarsi, Llorente, and Garcia Dropped from Spain’s Final Euro 2024 Roster

Luis de la Fuente has whittled his 29-strong cadre down to 26 players, excising one talented youth in the process.

Pau Cubarsi, Marcos Llorente, and Aleix Garcia have been excised from Luis de la Fuente’s selection for Spain’s attempt at European triumph at Euro 2024. Last month, de la Fuente assembled a youthful squad, aiming to recapture European dominance on German soil.

In a recent skirmish against Andorra, Cubarsi assisted Ayoze Perez, a shock pick, in notching his inaugural goal. Cubarsi, despite a stellar debut season in LaLiga, didn’t make the cut as de la Fuente favored seasoned defenders Robin Le Normand, Nacho, Aymeric Laporte, and Dani Vivian.

Llorente got the boot too. Yet, Barcelona prodigy Fermin Lopez, who dazzled with an assist in his international debut, secured his spot. Garcia, despite making waves with Girona, and helping them clinch third in LaLiga—netting three goals and crafting six assists—also didn’t survive the final selection.

Spain is set to kick off their Euro 2024 journey in Group B against Croatia on June 15. Italy and Albania round out their group challenges.

Final Spain squad: Unai Simon (Athletic Bilbao), Alex Remiro (Real Sociedad), David Raya (Arsenal), Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Jesus Navas (Sevilla), Aymeric Laporte (Al-Nassr), Nacho (Real Madrid), Robin Le Normand (Real Sociedad), Dani Vivian (Athletic Bilbao), Alex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Rodrigo (Manchester City), Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Fabian Ruiz (Paris Saint-Germain), Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad), Pedri (Barcelona), Alex Baena (Villarreal), Fermin Lopez (Barcelona), Alvaro Morata (Atletico Madrid), Joselu (Real Madrid), Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig), Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao), Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad), Ayoze Perez (Real Betis), Ferran Torres (Barcelona), Lamine Yamal (Barcelona).
