The national electoral authority announced the list of preliminary results of the legislative elections held last weekend in the country. If 48 constituencies are to go to the second round, 92 deputies have already been elected. If some tenors are confirmed in their positions, there are still some surprises.

It is no great surprise that opposition leaders such as Anicet Georges Dologuélé or Martin Ziguélé were re-elected in their constituencies. Prime Minister Firmin Ngrebada was elected in the first round in Boali.

On the other hand, certain important figures from Parliament were not renewed. This is the case with Timoléon Baikoua or the Vice-President of the National Assembly Jean-Symphorien Mapenzi. He was beaten by Henry-José Gbogouda, the prime minister’s chief of staff, who competed as an independent.

Like him, the several personalities are close to the presidential movement, but with the label too independent to enter the National Assembly: this is the case with Jean-Sosthène Dengbe, director of the cabinet of the interior minister or again Evariste Ngamana, spokeswoman for the United Hearts Movement.

Finally, there are new figures, but already well-known in Bangui, who will sit in the opposition. This is the case with Dominique Yandocka or even Joseph Bendounga known for his openness. “We are gradually witnessing the reconfiguration of the Central African political landscape,” comments a figure from civil society.
