adoption of the Constitutional Bill establishing the Vice-Presidency

This is a measure that responds to the resolutions of the Second Inclusive National Forum, which was opposed by part of the opposition. Among the changes to the constitution is the creation of a vice-presidency in particular. On Thursday, the Council of Ministers clarified the role of the future Vice-President and the reactions did not last long.

as reported from Ndjamena, Madjiasra Nako

How will be named the future Vice President of Chad and how great will be his power? These are the most important questions for observers of political life since the end of the second inclusive national forum.

On Thursday, therefore, the Council of Ministers answered questions by announcing that the Vice-President will be appointed by the President of the Republic. In addition, he will ensure “temporary absence from the territory or temporary obstacles within the limits of the powers that the Head of State will delegate to him”. The report of the Council of Ministers further adds that “in the event of the awakening or obstruction of the Presidency of the Republic, the powers of the President of the Republic shall be provisionally exercised by the Vice-President”.

The weakness of this Vice-President is that he has no legitimacy

For opponent Saleh Kebzaboin this way, the head of state tries for 30 years to resolve his legacy without worrying about the democratic game: “The weakness of this vice president is that he has no legitimacy. It depends directly on [Idriss] Déby with the idea of heritage in the background. It’s a shame for Chad because Déby, who has all the levers in his hand, will play the point he wants when it’s time, and it will therefore be his choice that will solve the problem of heritage, and not the people’s choice, it is sin. ”

According to the bill, the vice chairman will have vacancies between 45 and 90 days to organize new elections.
