The first to be received were members of the outgoing Electoral Commission, including Corneille Nangaa, its president, who at the end of the interview with Félix Tshisekedi reminded that his team was no longer legitimate to organize the next choice.
He insisted on the need to keep them in 2023 and even assured that he already had a timeline in his drawers to organize them. But for this, Corneille Nangaa recalls, it is urgent to appoint the members of the new Ceni office. This is a stumbling block with the pro-Kabila co-coalition.
Contract monitoring
Among the other institutions consulted was the National Council for the Monitoring of the New Year’s Agreement, an agreement remained a dead letter. Its president, Joseph Olenghankoy, lamented that Felix Tshisekedi and Joseph Kabila could not talk to each other, he insisted on a dialogue by excluding “extremists on both sides”.
“Our role here is not to come and tell lies to those who have the fate of the country in their hands. We would like them to first meet with his predecessor Joseph Kabila, that they manage to exchange without having extremists on both sides, and that they talk about the problems face to face. “
Religious leaders
Several representatives of religious denominations were received, Muslims, revival churches, the Vice President of the Church of Christ in the Congo and even Cardinal Monsengwo of the Catholic Church. The latter reminded the President that there is an urgent need to focus everything on the economy of the country affected by the recession and exacerbated not only by Covid-19 but also by the blockages created by the tensions between those in power.
These meetings are important as the eight recognized religious denominations depend on the appointment of the new president of Ceni. Note that the second cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, the episcopal conference and the kibam guests will be received later this week.
Whether it is election observation organizations, institutions that support democracy or even religious denominations, guests supported the president’s approach.
