Twitter reacts when the Gunners lose to Hibernian

Arsenal’s season 2020/2021 was a complete disaster.

Their eighth place made them miss European football for the first time in 26 years and it was far from the only embarrassment. Unai Emery, a man they killed a few months earlier, masterminded their Europa League exit at the hands of Villarreal and things were also a mess off the pitch.

It was the cruel execution of Gunnersaurus, the Super League debacle and the subsequent, weak apology issued by the Kroenke family.

Yet it is all earlier now. On their way into their virgin game before the 2021/2022 season against Hibernian, Gunners fans would have been hopeful of starting a new, less depressing era in the club’s history.

However, that optimism soon disappeared when they saw this clip appear on their Twitter timeline.

The comeback from Cedric Soares was bad but the subsequent attempt to deal with it by Arthur Okonkwo was much worse.

Martin Boyle will never score an easier goal and rival fans will never have an easier way to mock the Gunners.

Countless missed chances, defensive errors that led to goals and a missed penalty to start. Arsenal: All or nothing starts well.

It soon got even worse for Arsenal as well. After failing to level things up before the break, Hibs managed to net again. This time, Daniel MacKay was the scorer, on his way home from a corner.

Surely it can only be improved from here, right? Wrong.

Fans got a brief glimmer of hope when Nicolas Pepe won a penalty … just to save it.

Pepe is taken down in the box and we get a penalty …

But Nico’s spot-kick is saved. # HIBARS? ⚪️ 2-0? (73)

Penalty against Arsenal – AND KEVIN SAVES IT! ? @ Dabrowsky1 goes the right way to deny Nicolas Pépé from the place.

It stays 2⃣-0⃣!

Last season, Emile Smith Rowe’s emergence was a rare source of joy for the Gunners and once again he offered fans some comfort and volleyed home on the back post at the end.

However, that was not enough with the Hibs, who finished 37 points behind the Scottish champions Rangers last season and were on a 2-1 victory.

It was another bitter blow for Arteta’s defenders.
