Marcus Rashford misses the start of the season

Marcus Rashford will miss the first two months of Manchester United’s 2021/22 season after deciding to have surgery on a long-term shoulder problem.

Rashford has been breastfeeding since November and treated the pain with injections. The forward was constantly present for United last season and made 57 appearances – the second most of any in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s team.

His form lost somewhat towards the end of the campaign and this can be explained by the injury he suffered. According to The Telegraph, Rashford is anxious to undergo surgery to solve the problem, as he is worried about how it could affect his long-term movement.

Although he prefers to undergo the procedure immediately, he is not expected to go under the knife until the end of July. Rashford would then have to wait six weeks before returning to training and another six weeks until returning to the first team action.

By following this timeline, he would miss his team’s opening eight Premier League matches as well as the opening of their Champions League campaign. That would be bad news for England as well, with Rashford set to rule out their 2022 World Cup qualifier in September.

It is said that he is encouraged by the club to reconsider his decision when he is on holiday. Rashford has just returned from England Euro 2020 duty. He did not play as heavy as one might have expected given his talent and played less than 90 minutes in total.

His most remarkable commitment was hitting the post during the penalty shootout in the final. Since then, he – along with Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho – has been subjected to ill-fated racist abuse with a mural dedicated to Rashford in Withington, even vandalized.

Thankfully, the abuse has since been covered by messages of support with a show of solidarity next to the monument that was organized for Tuesday night.
