M2D requires a brand new rally

The Movement for the Defense of Democracy (M2D) launched a new call for mobilization for a peaceful meeting this Saturday, March 13th. The coalition formed last week brings together opposition political parties (including Ousmane Sonko’s Pastef) and civil society movements (including the Y’en a Marre). M2D had suspended the planned demonstrations until Tuesday and Wednesday after several days of demonstrations and violence, leaving at least 5 dead, according to the official report, 11 according to the opposition.

For the movement in defense of democracy, the “struggle” continues. M2D explains having heard “many calls”, including from religious guides, saying it was “concerned about peace and stability” to justify suspension of demonstrations scheduled for tomorrow, but announces two new meetings.
