The CEI says it is “ready” for the presidential election

From this Wednesday, October 14, until October 20, Ivorians registered to vote will be able to collect their ballot papers at their polling station. 17 days before the presidential election, the election commission says it is “ready”. The opposition, which called for civil disobedience, has not yet launched its exact slogans, and its two candidates doubt their participation if the election actually takes place.

as reported from Abidjan,

As of this Wednesday, 7.5 million registered voters can theoretically go to the polls to withdraw their ballot papers for the presidential election.

“It is good to specify that all voters, that is, the 7,495,082 voters on the electoral roll, are concerned about the distribution of these ballot papers,” insisted Ibrahime Kuibiert Coulibaly, president of CEI. The Independent Electoral Commission is technically ready to organize the presidential election on 31 October 2020 and says that we do not want to create controversy, let alone disturb anyone. Only respect for the constitution and the election law are our goals. ”

The CEI therefore says it is ready, but there is still uncertainty surrounding this election on the 31st. Alassane Ouattara reiterates again and again that the election will take place on the scheduled date. KKB, an independent candidate, has stated on several occasions that he will participate.

But for its part, the opposition front has been hammering for several weeks that the conditions are not met for the election to be held. The opposition even suspended the participation of its representatives in the Central Commission and the local commissions. But neither Pascal Affi N’Guessan, who is calling for a transition for several months, nor Henri Konan Bédié have yet uttered the word “boycott”.
