Nairobi (AX) — Towfiq Political Party Chairman Sheikh Ahmed Shakir has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate the results of Galmudug State’s House of Representatives and local council elections.
At a news conference on Monday, Sheikh Ahmed urged the party’s supporters to respond to the ruling peacefully, saying it had renewed hope among the Somali people.

He congratulated Towfiq supporters, saying their persistence had produced results and that the court had taken their grievances into account.
Sheikh Ahmed further appealed to the public to respect the judgment calmly and refrain from any actions that might trigger disorder.
He also called on Somalia’s armed forces and federal government to safeguard public security, especially as various sections of society continue to demand one-person, one-vote elections.
“Our party had spent the past eight months advocating for free and fair elections based on electoral principles and procedures,” he added.
He said the Supreme Court ruling validated the party’s campaign for an electoral process grounded in those standards.
The Supreme Court ruled that the results of the concurrent Galmudug House of Representatives and local council elections, held on July 30, 2026, failed to comply with Somalia’s Constitution and electoral law.
