The delegation, joined by Italy’s military attaché in Somalia, was welcomed at the Somali military headquarters by Sahal and senior officers of the Somali National Armed Forces.

Military officials said the discussions centered on broadening ties between the Somali and Italian armed forces, with emphasis on tactical assistance, training for ground forces and efforts to strengthen the institutional capacity of Somalia’s defense sector.

Sahal outlined the immediate needs of Somalia’s infantry units and stressed that continued international partnerships are essential to building on security gains made across the country.

The meeting took place as Somalia presses ahead with rebuilding and modernizing its armed forces while assuming a larger role in national security operations.

Italian officials thanked the Somali military leadership for the reception and reiterated Rome’s commitment to backing Somalia’s security institutions through training, logistical support and defense cooperation.

Italy has for years maintained security and development links with Somalia, including assistance with military training and stabilization initiatives.
