Somalia Affirms Its Involvement in COP29, Deepening Relations with Azerbaijan

Baku (AX) — Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Somalia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan without a residential base, has announced that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will participate in the forthcoming COP29 Climate Conference. During this global event, he is expected to engage in discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Scheduled from November 11 to 22, 2024, the UN Climate Conference will unfold in Baku, the vibrant capital of Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Fathudin, who also holds the position of Somalia’s representative to Turkey, made this declaration while presenting his credentials to President Aliyev on Friday. “The President of Somalia will definitely take part in COP29,” stated Fathudin, who has recently been appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

He underscored that their anticipated meeting during the conference could significantly strengthen the ties between Somalia and Azerbaijan, paving the way for a more profound bilateral partnership.

Both President Aliyev and Ambassador Fathudin acknowledged the importance of high-level diplomatic dialogues. They commended the productive collaboration between Somalia and Azerbaijan in various international forums, notably the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
