According to the ministry, the raid took place in Kurtunwaarey district and focused on areas where al-Shabab leaders and fighters were thought to be active.
The ministry said Danab forces also destroyed a stockpile of weapons, military equipment and other materials the group allegedly used to organize and carry out attacks.
The operation forms part of continuing military pressure aimed at weakening al-Shabab and stopping attacks on civilians and government targets, the ministry said.
Somali government forces, working alongside local fighters and international partners, have stepped up operations against al-Shabab in recent months across multiple parts of the country.
The Ministry of Defense said security operations will go on as part of wider efforts to restore security, stability and peace in Somalia.
Al-Shabab, which is affiliated with al-Qaida, continues to launch attacks on Somali security forces, government officials and civilians despite repeated military campaigns.
