Puntland State Issues Ebola Alert as WHO Monitors Outbreaks in Uganda and Congo
Officials described Ebola as a dangerous and fast-spreading viral illness that can prove fatal if not contained and treated quickly.
AXADLE, Somalia — Puntland State has moved to calm fears while urging caution, issuing a public health alert after the World Health Organization reported an uptick in Ebola cases in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a statement on Wednesday, the health ministry asked residents to stay alert and follow preventive steps to limit the chance of infection, stressing that no Ebola cases have been reported in Puntland State or anywhere else in Somalia.

Officials described Ebola as a dangerous and fast-spreading viral illness that can prove fatal if not contained and treated quickly.
Among the symptoms highlighted by health authorities were high fever, headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding from various parts of the body.
The ministry urged the public to wash hands regularly, avoid close contact with anyone showing possible symptoms, and report suspected cases immediately to the nearest health facility.
It added that Puntland State is following the situation closely with the World Health Organization and other health agencies as international officials monitor the outbreaks in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in an effort to stop further regional spread.
