IED Explosion Claims 3 Lives and Injures 13 at Teashop in Central Somalia Town
Tragic Bombing in Buloburde: Civilians Fall Victim to Violence
BULOBURDE, Somalia (AXADLE) – A devastating explosion rocked a bustling teashop in Buloburde town on Saturday, claiming the lives of at least three civilians and injuring thirteen more, according to local authorities.
The busy teashop served as a social hub where residents, members of Buloburde’s security forces, and Ma’awisley clan militia often gathered. It was here that the deadly improvised explosive device (IED) detonated.
Officials suspect Al-Shabaab militants are responsible for planting the bomb in this popular gathering spot, intensifying fears among locals.
Omar Nur, a local security force member, stated, “Today, the terrorist organization targeted innocent individuals enjoying their time at a teashop in Buloburde’s Hantiwadaag neighborhood. We lost three lives and injured thirteen more. Following the attack, security personnel initiated a thorough search of the area.”
A healthcare official, speaking to Kaab TV, revealed that five victims, in critical condition, were airlifted to Mogadishu for urgent medical attention, as the local clinic lacks the facilities to manage severe cases.
Buloburde has seen a string of Al-Shabaab bombings over the years, with many civilian lives lost. The town lies approximately 219 kilometers from Mogadishu, setting the stage for recurrent violence.
Last September, nearly ten residents tragically lost their lives when an explosive-laden vehicle detonated in the lively market, tragically affecting many women and children.
The militant group has even targeted a crucial bridge, hindering movement within the city and affecting daily life.
Despite the presence of Djiboutian forces from the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) deployed in this area since 2014, Buloburde continues to face relentless attacks from Al-Shabaab.
This ongoing siege restricts the flow of essential supplies, leaving air transport as the sole viable option for entering or leaving the beleaguered town.
