A promotional stunt for Drake’s upcoming album Iceman came to an abrupt end in Toronto, where firefighters took apart a massive ice sculpture after swelling crowds around the display raised safety concerns.
Hundreds of people flocked to the installation, turning the scene chaotic as some fans climbed onto the structure and others tried to chip away at it in hopes of revealing the album’s release date, which Drake had said was concealed inside.
Accounts from the scene said one person arrived with a sledgehammer, while others poured flammable liquids on the ice in an effort to melt it.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow thanked police and fire crews for maintaining public safety, while also recognizing the buzz the stunt had generated.
“I can understand why fans are excited, so they want to go and find out what is that date, because that’s what he said is in there,” she said.
“Drake supports our city.”
Iceman will be Drake’s first solo album since 2023’s For All the Dogs.
