Zlatan Ibrahimovic close to extending AC Milan contract after the end of the season

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is close to signing a new contract with AC Milan to keep him at the San Siro after the 2020/21 season.

The Swede has had a transformative effect on Milan since he returned in January 2020 and is about to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.

The 39-year-old is currently enjoying his second spell at the club, which previously represented them between 2010 and 2012.

Stefano Pioli’s side has exceeded many people’s expectations of them already this season, but has fallen far behind city rivals Inter in the Serie A title race in recent weeks.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport (via Get Italian Football News) claim that good news will come for Milan, as Ibrahimovic can put pen to paper on a new agreement of 7 million euros per year within the next ten days.

AC Milan are “convinced” that an agreement will soon be reached with Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the extension of his contract.

Ibrahimovic has made 15 appearances in 16 Serie A matches this season, but apart from his goal scorers, he has been greatly influenced behind the scenes by some of his teammates.

Milan boasts a youthful side that promises a lot in the future, but the impact that some of the more experienced campaigns – especially Ibrahimovic – have had on pushing them to the top of the table should not be overlooked.

Ibrahimovic returned to the Swedish national team for the first time in five years during the recent international break and continues to show that even though he is approaching his 40th birthday, he still has a lot to offer.

Rossoneri is expected to try to sign another striker this summer with a view to the long-term future, and in the short term an incoming striker would share the burden of scoring with Ibrahimovic.

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is said to be their main target, although the Gazzetta dello Sport claims that it would take something in the region of 40 million euros to praise him away from Florence.
