Wolves will miss the rest of the season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that forward Pedro Neto will miss the rest of the season after suffering a nasty knee injury in Friday’s 1-0 win over Fulham.

The 21-year-old, who scored five goals and five assists in 31 games this year, managed just over half an hour in Friday’s game before he was forced off with the injury, which was immediately feared to be a serious one.

But an obstacle that appears and that you want to pass as fiz with all the others. There will be many months long from the site on which you will be most willing to recover in the best way possible but no one else is. Obrigado a todos pelas mensagens ✨ ?? pic.twitter.com/Vj1h9tA1EM

Wolves noted on its official website that searches revealed that Neto had suffered a “significant” injury to the knee pad and will undergo surgery later this week.

The statement adds that Neto ‘is not expected’ to play again for the rest of the season, but the real effect of this issue is considered to be much more serious that Wolves release.

According to Jornal de Noticias, Neto had suffered a knee injury in recent weeks but tried to play through the pain, and he has apparently exacerbated the problem to the point that he will now miss the European Championships this summer.

“Another obstacle that has emerged and that I will overcome, just as I have done with everyone else,” he wrote on Twitter. “It will be difficult to spend months away from the place I most like to be, but I will recover in the best way to return stronger than ever, it is guaranteed.”

As Neto is not expected to return next season, his chances of sealing a major transfer from Molineux also seem to have disappeared.

Manchester United had speculatively linked to a £ 50m move for the 21-year-old, while Juventus have also been linked in the past, but it seems highly unlikely that any club will charge that kind of money to an injured player.

The news comes as a big blow to Wolves, who have also lost left-back Jonny Otto to another knee injury.

The Spaniard missed the first five months of the season with a knee injury, but after only seven games back in the team, he has been ruled out with a new ligament injury that will require surgery in the near future.
