Milan Confirms Fonseca as Pioli’s Dynamic Successor

Following Stefano Pioli’s exit after the 2023-24 Serie A season, Milan has snagged Paulo Fonseca as the new skipper of the ship. At San Siro, Fonseca, fresh from his stint at Lille, signed up for a three-year adventure.

Last week, Fonseca ditched Ligue 1 after rumors swirled about Milan courting him. The 51-year-old has a rich coaching portfolio, having steered teams like Porto, Braga, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Roma.

Milan rolled out the red carpet for Fonseca three weeks following their announcement of Pioli’s upcoming departure. Under Pioli’s command, the team clinched the Scudetto in the 2021-22 season, breaking an 11-year drought. This was followed by a fourth and then a sec-place finish, though lagging 19 points behind Inter.

Names like Sergio Conceicao, Mark van Bommel, and Julen Lopetegui were also whispered as potential successors before Fonseca’s confirmation.
