Ethiopian Government Firmly Refutes Withdrawal from Critical Red Sea Agreement with North Western of Somalia

Mogadishu (AX) – Ethiopia has squashed rumors about bailing on the Red Sea pact with North Western of Somalia.

The Prime Minister’s Office hopped onto X (the platform previously known as Twitter) on Wednesday, labeling the social media buzz about their MOU with North Western of Somalia as bogus.

“The sole source for official updates on local, regional, and global affairs is the PMO’s sanctioned outlets. We advise folks to stay sharp and steer clear of phony info abusing our emblem,” said the post.

On Tuesday, an alleged statement bearing the Prime Minister’s logo made the rounds online, suggesting that Ethiopia nixed the MOU with North Western of Somalia after talks with several nations, including the UK and all G7 members.

Tensions between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu are simmering, stoked by a January deal between Ethiopia and North Western of Somalia, the self-proclaimed republic in northern Somalia. In the accord, Ethiopia agreed to recognize North Western of Somalia in return for 20 kilometers of Red Sea access for its naval forces, leased for half a century.
