Memphis Depay Set to Exit Atletico Madrid as a Free Agent: What’s Next for the Talented Striker?

Memphis Depay bids adieu to Atletico Madrid after an 18-month tenure.

Originally transitioning from Barcelona with a €4million price tag, Depay signed a contract with Atleti for two and a half years in total.

The Dutch forward, recently selected for Ronald Koeman’s Euro 2024 squad, is departing the club a year ahead of schedule.

During his stint at Atleti, Depay found the back of the net nine times over 31 league games, but was often overshadowed by the prowess of Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann, resulting in just 12 starts.

Depay expressed mixed emotions on X regarding his departure, indicating a complex exit. “Explaining my feelings now is tough; perhaps another moment would suit better,” he noted.

He continued, “To everyone at Atleti—players, staff, and particularly the supporters—I’m grateful for the vibe and backing you showed. The positive memories will stay with me. Gracias.”
