Imanol Algualci praises Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey success in spectacular style

Real Sociedad won the Copa del Rey for the first time in 34 years on Saturday and manager Imanol Alguacil marked the occasion in style, wore a retro shirt and treated us to a wake-up call in a brilliant press conference after the match.

In a competitive match, La Real beat Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao 1-0 to win the trophy. Mikel Oyarzabal was the hero and turned a second half into the game’s only goal.

After the victory, Alguacil greeted the press in an unconventional way. He first put on an old white and blue shirt before entering the song.

This is incredible.

When your boss is also a hard supporter.

He began to sing, “This is for all of you, Guipuzcoa! For all those who know the real thing! Come on really! Really! Come on, Goazen!”

Before Alguacil became the first team manager in 2018, he had a long relationship with Real Sociedad. He started his playing career at the club and spent nine years there between 1989 and 1998 before becoming part of the coaching program for the youth team.

After enjoying a long time as B-team manager and a temporary job responsible for the senior side, he finally landed the manager crew in 2018. Since then, La Real has performed well. Alguacil guided the club to a strong ninth place after taking over halfway through 2018/19, and they followed it up by finishing in La Liga’s top six in 2019/20.

They are about to replicate this term, but there is little chance that they will break into the top four. However, La Real have some talented players that they can fight to keep in the summer.

Their Copa del Rey finalist Oyarzabal has previously been a target for Manchester City, while young striker Alexander Isak has also turned his head. The Swedish international has succeeded with a goal every other match in La Liga this season and benefited David Silva’s creative genius.
