In a significant move to combat corruption, President Bola Tinubu has initiated an investigation into troubling allegations surrounding the establishment of a fictitious government agency purportedly operating from within his office, which reportedly received nearly $950,000 in public funding.
The entity in question, known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), is alleged to have been incorporated using forged documents that falsely represented presidential authority. Authorities are currently on the hunt for Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who purportedly masqueraded as the director general of this fictive council. He faces multiple charges, including forgery and impersonation, although he asserts that the agency was formed through legitimate means.
The scope of the investigation will delve into how this entity managed to acquire what appeared to be official recognition, including leasing office space and opening bank accounts, as well as determining whether any public officials or institutions may have inadvertently or otherwise aided this alleged fraudulent operation.
