negotiations on the lifting of sanctions and the formation of a government

Appointed Prime Minister of Mali on Sunday 27 September, Moctar Ouane has two immediate goals. The first is the formation of a government of national unity with even hope of seeing the participation of representatives of the armed groups involved in the peace process.

The second is to achieve, with the support of the interim president, Ba N’Daw, the lifting of the embargo imposed by the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) on Mali.

To lift the embargo against Mali, the phone works a lot these days between Accra and Bamako, also between Abidjan and the Malian capital. Here we can recognize that Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Ivorian counterpart Alassane Dramane Ouattara are among the heads of state of ECOWAS who are most involved in quickly finding a solution.

According to our information, the Malian junta could quickly make a bigger concession: in a final version of the Transitional Charter, the role of the Vice President in defense and security issues is limited. It is clear that Colonel Assémi Goïta, the leader of the Putist military occupying this post, which ECOWAS demanded, could relinquish the power to replace the interim president in case of obstruction or force majeure.

M5 officials contacted

Everyone is working to get lifting of sanctionsincluding the Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, which also tears the hair out for the formation of the new government. Moral investigations of ministers are underway. And for the first time since the move to form a government, officials from the M5, the movement that contributed to President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, were contacted.
