The CMAS, the movement of Imam Mahmoud Dicko who led the popular uprising for several months against the former regime of Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, clarifies its position amid controversy over the National Transitional Council. It now shows its willingness to play the role of the transitional authorities and to participate in the future Council.
While the installation of the last organ in the Malian transition is still ongoing, the controversy over him, it does not fall back. For two weeks now, many civilians and especially political actors have condemned a “grip” of the soldiers from the transition and especially this future council.
And while the majority of political parties or Malian unions have not submitted any file, CMAS, the movement for Imam Dicko, has many candidates for the National Transitional Council. Asked by RFI, Issa Kaou N’Djim, the movement’s coordinator, does not want to communicate about their numbers.
But he strongly criticizes all those who refuse to sit in the CNT, on the grounds that they believe it the place given to the military is too important. The foremost among them is its former ally in the M5-RFP coalition. “It is a register of politicians. The most important thing today is to get together. We and the others met to drive out IBK and his corrupt regime. The logical continuation and result of the transition is a matter of principle and also of national interest, he said.
CMAS will support a soldier at the helm of the CNT
CMAS is even for Colonel Malick Diaw’s candidacy for the CNT presidency. Among the members of the CNSP, the military junta that carried out the coup on August 18, Colonel Malick Diaw is the last to not have a post in the transitional organs.
It therefore seems ideal. From the end of the week, CMAS will start setting up its offices in the regions with one goal: to network the territory and to support transitional authorities everywhere.
In return, Issa Kaou N’Djim indicates that he expects “firmness” from the authorities, from President Bah N’Daw. Especially in the face of the social discontent expressed in many sectors, as the first trade union group in the country, UNTM, ended a three-day strike last week and has just submitted a new statement in mid-December. “Unpatriotic” strikes at the CMAS spokesman who claims that “this is not the time, therefore Bah N’Daw must take responsibility”.
