The Senegalese army carried out airstrikes and heavy weapons against a rebel-held base in Casamance, in southern Senegal, on the border between Bissau and Guinea.

This security operation aimed to dismantle the military bases of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) and allow the return of displaced populations. a conflict that has now been going on for almost 40 years.

It is the base of the MFDC warlord who was shelled by the Senegalese army near the border with Guinea-Bissau. Kassolole has been occupied for several years by the men in Caesar Atoute Badiate, this leader of the independence movement in Casamance who leads the armed branch called ATIKA.

“Secure the premises”

An operation which, according to Colonel Makhtar Diop from the Directorate for Information and Public Relations (Dirpa), aims to “secure places and surroundings to enable and support the return of the population and create conditions for their freedom of movement and the safe implementation of their economic activities”.

The Dirpane chief does not go beyond the dimensions of the results of the operations, nor how long they say it is a military operation and that the results will be made available to us as soon as possible.

An army operation that follows a series of military maneuvers, started since the beginning of the year and aims to dismantle the rebel bases in Casamance, while continuing negotiations on a definitive return to peace after almost 40 years of conflict.
