Ceuta is still struggling to cope with the aftermath of a mass border crossing, with between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remaining in Spain’s North African enclave, including hundreds of unaccompanied children.
Ceuta leader Juan Jesus Vivas told the European Parliament that the city does not have enough security or immigration resources to manage the crisis. He called conditions “unsustainable” and said about 100 people died during the surge at the border.
Aid organisations have warned that migrant children are living without sufficient food, shelter or protection. They are calling for safe accommodation as Spain prepares to redistribute unaccompanied minors across the country under its immigration laws.
