Zambian girls get their first rating

The Zambians, the only representatives of Africa in the women’s soccer tournament at the Olympics in Tokyo, drew against China (4-4), this Saturday 24 July in Miyagi.

They had marked the spirits on Thursday by being victim for the Dutch reason (10-3) the first day of the group stage of the women’s soccer tournament. This time, the Zambians have proved positive by getting the first point in their history at the Olympics thanks to their draw against China (4-4).

Copper Queens, who are participating in the Olympics for the first time, still led 3-1 in the 23rd minute after the hat trick from the Chinese Shuang Wang. But unlike the Netherlands, striker Barbra Banda shone again by scoring three goals (42nd, 46th, 69th).

At the end of the match, China logically managed to equalize thanks to Shuang Wang on penalties (4-4, 83rd) and thus deprived Zambia of a first victory. But despite the disappointment, the Zambians can enjoy this historic point that allows them to believe in qualifying for the quarterfinals. They must beat Brazil, fourth at the 2016 Olympics, to secure a place at least among the top third.
